Pitt will beat Florida State tonight. Hard for FSU to concentrate on this game after giving away the Duke game. They’ll probably sleepwalk thru a big chunk of the game. Picking Pitt’s guards over FSU’s size. Big win for the Pitt program.

We can’t all be demi-god oracles like radio personality Andrew Fillipponi. Also this wasn’t the bullshit line of the night. Florida State was -5.5 so even the oddsmakers didn’t see Pitt winning by 13. It looks ugly today, but I feel FSU -5.5 was the correct line before tip-off. Jeff Capel is showing he’s a better head coach than everyone thought and the odds makers haven’t adjusted yet. Oh and his players love the guy.

Duke -17 against a mediocre Syracuse team? Not the bullshit line of the night. The residual hangover Fillipponi called Florida State showing was also on display at Cameron Indoor. The Vegas sportsbooks were again way off base. If they thought Syracuse was gonna hang with Duke, that line would have been closer to -12. No malice intent again from the boys in Vegas and I see why they thought Duke would win big at home against an 11-5 team.
The inaugural and also inarguable bullshit line of the night for Monday, January 14th was Indiana -2.5 at home against Nebraska. What happens in the moments before we throw our money down on the wrong side of that same bullshit that wasn’t so obvious three hours ago? Exactly what the odds makers want you to think. Indiana needed a win. After losing two in a row on the road, Archie Miller would have his team ready for the home crowd, right? Maybe he did and Nebraska is just that good. Either way, the average asshole (me) looked at this game and didn’t see a way Indiana loses at home given the situation. I liked it even more at -135 on the money line. Nebraska came into Bloomington and blew the doors off Indiana, winning 66-51 and holding them to only 22 first half points. So who saw this coming? Not me, but this line reeks of shit in hind sight.
The 2018-2019 Nebraska Cornhuskers are handing out ass whippings to teams from major conferences like it’s their job. They beat Seton Hall by 23 points on November 14th. Won by 23 at Oklahoma State. Put up 94 points on Creighton at home and won by 19. On November 26th, they beat Clemson on the road. Why is that so special? It was only Clemson’s second home loss in their last 20 games. The odds makers knew all of this. I sure as hell didn’t. If I had, the pizza shop would have been on Nebraska money line all day long. The boys in Vegas were baiting me on the money line anyways at +2.5. So of course the Cornhuskers beat 24th ranked Indiana on the road by 15. It’s only January 15th, but Nebraska Basketball looks like a team on the rise and is giving more ammunition to people touting the Big 10 as the best conference in college basketball. Another lesson to be learned here? The oddsmakers set lines to make you bet on one side or the other. If they had to create a true line for this game, Nebraska is the favorite by a few points. They’re back at home Thursday night against a short handed Michigan State team and I’ll be eagerly waiting for the line to get posted. In the meantime, here’s Andy Katz speaking with Isaiah Roby after their big win in Indiana.
